Who We Are
Bolangir, a district in the western part of Odisha, is known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant festivals, and hardworking people. However, despite its abundant resources and cultural significance, the region has historically faced various socio-economic challenges. Issues like underdeveloped infrastructure, limited access to quality education and healthcare, youth unemployment, and environmental degradation have hindered the region’s progress. These concerns necessitated a platform to address the problems collectively and work towards the sustainable development of Bolangir.
Inception and Vision
Bolangir Bikash Parishad (BBP) was founded in the year 1999 by a group of socially conscious intellectuals, professionals, and community leaders who shared a common vision—“To ensure the holistic development and progress of Bolangir through community participation, advocacy, and sustainable practices.” The Parishad was envisioned as a platform that would unite the people of Bolangir, both residing locally and across the country, to contribute to the region’s growth and well-being.
Founding Members and Early Efforts
Under the leadership of Mukunda Sahu, Bolangir Bikash Parishad began its journey with a focus on raising awareness about local issues, promoting education, and preserving the cultural heritage of the region. Initial efforts were concentrated on organizing health camps, tree plantation drives, and literacy programs. The Parishad quickly gained recognition for its community-driven initiatives and its ability to bring together diverse groups for a common cause.
